Process

I started with a collage of several photos and a drawing for the "Meat Drunk" project. I used a grid to get the image from 8" x 8.5" inches to 48" x 52" then mapped out patterns of light and color.

Meat Drunk/An Offering

I've been thinking a lot about duality, two people inside one body, battling selves trying to influence the other. When I started this painting I was also interested in the "meat drunk" concept that I first read about in Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes's Women who Run with Wolves. She cited studies of wolf packs who, after long periods of starvation, slaughter herds of animals even after they have filled themselves, killing everything in sight and leaving most to waste. Starvation leads to over-consumption, a beautiful metaphor for the human population. During the painting process the meaning evolved, it became an offering to the viewer, like an animal who brings it's owner it's kill.
