Freedom in Paint

I am beginning to love so much the freedom that watercolor allows me. The paint won't stay within the line and is unforgivable when I make a mistake. I'm learning to let go and just let the materials be what they are, uncontrollable. And because of their translucence, there is a great deal of mark making and sketch left visible.
I'm also noticing not only the colors of my Caribbean environment coming through, but the colors of my childhood. I grew in the 80s and 90s when florescent colors dominated and Lisa Frank's brightly colored psychedelic dolphins and kittens covered my walls and my notebooks.

Thinking more about the voices in our heads, dualing-selves, being our own worst enemies. Also how information travels, especially living in a small place within a small community. The external and internal babble and gossip.

Lots of Color

New double self portraits. Lots of exploration into the concept of "Possible-Selves," duality, childhood, nostalgia, communication both inward and outward and the language we create between these parts of ourselves.
